Our faculty is packed with experience. They are not only chefs and entrepreneurs from the industry, but they’re experienced educators – inspired by knowledge and passionate about teaching.
They understand the importance of classic techniques; the properties of ingredients and the nuances of flavor; presentation, speed, accuracy, communication and teamwork. And they impart this knowledge every single day. The industry needs culinary arts graduates who understand classic technique, who have great knife skills, and who work quickly and efficiently.
Chef Patrick Howarth
Patrick Howarth is a Certified Chef de Cuisine (CCC). He started his culinary path in 1974 at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT) in Edmonton Alberta. In 1985 he achieved his interprovincial Red Seal for Journeyman Cook. To further complete his studies Patrick received his status of the Certified Chef de Cuisine Designation in accordance with CCFCC and the Canadian Culinary Institute in Ottawa.
Among his achievements and experience, Patrick has owned and operated a thriving B&B, a catering company servicing Western Canada and American Northwest. Patrick has been honored to serve dignitaries, famous personalities namely Prince Andrew, the Honorable Adrian Clarkson, Afghanistan President Hamid Karzai, Wayne Gretzky, Iona Campagnolo, His Honorable David Csee-Chai Lam, the Honorable Lois Hole, celebrities Garth Brooks, Tom Cochrane, Rick Mercer and Beverly Mahood.
Patrick has been awarded and served as a managing contractor for the Canadian Government in conjunction with SNC Lavalin and NATO/ISAF Forces in Kabul, Afghanistan providing essential services for over 20 Countries. In a separate tour Patrick worked for a company based in Germany called Supreme Food Services while in Kandahar.
At this period of time, Patrick was awarded the Commander’s Coin for services over and above his call of duty and was also awarded the General Service Medal from the Honorable Adrienne Clarkson during his eight tours of duty.
Other companies Patrick has provided services to include , Aramark and Compass Group Canada, for PTI Group International and cruise ship lines BC Stena. He has also participated in providing services for Canadian Natural Resources Ltd. in the Canadian North.
Chef Steve Djerfi
Chef Steve Djerfi has been cooking since a young age. Inspired by his Mother, a fantastic baker with eastern European roots, Chef Steve has been honing his culinary skills for over 20 years.
Since graduating from Liaison College and earning his Red Seal in 2007, Chef Steve has shared his skills in the kitchen professionally as a Sous Chef, Executive Chef and self-employed Caterer.
Chef Steve was a finalist in an Iron Chef competition in 2010 and has been certified in a number of related skills such as Smart Serve and Food Safety.
With a passion for cooking and helping future chefs achieve their culinary dreams, Chef Steve shares his knowledge and skills with his students.
